Working behind the scenes

There will be a lot of changes coming up in the future for Faith Home Ministries. There is much behind the scenes work involved to further Faith Home Ministries to reach more people in more homes. In the meantime, there will be a lot of silence as we work hard figuring out logistics, business plan, policies set in motion, etc. Anyone interested in promoting the ministry to bring in more donations to provide more opportunities please contact me. Before and After Bathroom Remodel

Yay!  The remodel is complete.  This floor should last forever!  Thank you to my husband for all his hard work, and his brother for hours of help!  Before, during, and after, construction pics:

We are working on ways to spread the word of the ministry to get more donations as we are in the planning stages of setting up a second Faith Home Ministries home in Vermont for transitional youth.  The Maryland home needs upkeep as well. This is a process that will take time; to have both homes ready for residents, and funding to afford the upkeep and necessary construction. Meanwhile, we keep busy with the two girls in the MD home and working on the

upkeep of the MD house (with volunteers in spare time so a lengthy process). The first-floor bathroom tile was not properly installed with cement board backing and a leak rotted the wooden underlayment. Currently, we are working on removing all the wooden rotted floor, laying new wood, then cement board, then new tile-- in the first-floor bathroom. Further upkeep on the list includes fresh coats of paint, fixing broken thresholds, etc.  This keeps us busy until Spring when we focus on the basement construction. The picture is the current state of the first-floor bathroom!

Things have been busy

Greetings!

Please forgive the silence for so long. One of the girls has a significant health issue with correlating disabilities so things have slowed down in regards to taking more children.  We are down to two teenagers in the home and that is keeping me pretty busy!!!  I also went back to grad school (and graduated July, 2017) to get my Master of Social Work as one of the next steps for the ministry is establishing Faith Home Ministries homes nation-wide.  This will take much time, effort, research, planning, and resources that do not exist at present, in order to make this dream a reality.

More update later.  Our website mistakenly went down and we have to rebuild it so our website is currently a work in progress as we piecemeal our old website with the new website format.  I just realized I need to post pictures of the Costa Rica trip with the girls (from June and July, 2015) too; such great times!  More later.

Much great work is going on behind the scenes; so much so that I am so behind updating the website! Last summer I took two girls (the rest didn't want to brave the jungle as it is very primitive there), to live in Costa Rica to meet with a wonderful missionary family on our way to living and doing volunteer work at Jaguar Rescue Center in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica.  The girls and I spent six weeks working and my husband and one more daughter flew out for a week of fun, adventure, and family travel before flying home. I will need to upload pictures when I have some free time again.  What an amazing experience and adventure!!

Meanwhile, I am in graduate school to learn more about how to expand FHM nation-wide as well as become a clinical licensed social worker as a trauma-informed therapist. This requires a lot of my time and attention. I am hoping to graduate July, 2017.  

So Excited About This Summer Vacation

Just finished booking everything for our summer trip to Canada with the girls; Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.  We are so appreciative of our faithful supporters for their amazing support without which there is no way we could make this trip happen! Thank you!! I am sooooo excited about the beautiful lifetime memories and experiences with the girls; different but akin to the Yellowstone National Park trip last summer. These experiences and memories will be with the girls forever.

Next Project Need

Lots of teenagers means lots of cars!  We have three girls in college now, all driving, so there is a need for many more parking spaces.  Between visitors, the girls, their friends and boyfriends, the front yard can be a muddy mess from people parking on the grass.  Our next project is to stabilize the grass with a special material used for parking spaces in which grass is planted on top of heavy duty material which allows cars to park on the grass but prevents erosion and a muddy mess. We are soliciting various companies with a similar product that allows this.  We need to raise the money to afford the product and  help with installation.  I will update when we know more.  One company is looking into the cost for us right now. There is often five cars parked, with visitors coming and going.

Yellowstone National Park vacation

The family went to Yellowstone National Park in July, 2013.  Thank you to everyone who made this trip a possibility, we are very grateful!  Everyone but Amanda was able to make it.  We flew into Billings, Montanna and drove to Gardiner, Montanna which was our home base.  We rented a house for a week.  It was the best time! Montanna is so beautiful.  We went horseback riding and rafting and lots of hikes and swimming in thermal rivers, etc.

Update --December 2012

Wow, I did not realize I have not posted in a long time!  Soooo much has happened since I last posted.  The waterproofing is finished and the basement is a construction zone mess from the waterproofing.  Eventually (Lord's timing), we will clear up the mess and start construction to finish the basement living quarters.  This requires clean up and then repairing the damaged walls and floor from the flood.  We have new flooring and baseboards; we just have to fix the walls first (drywall repair and finishing) and then install the new flooring.

Meanwhile, we keep busy with our five girls and their various needs; ages 12, 16, 17, 18 and 19. The two oldest are in college and the 17 year old, Kelly, graduates this year.  We are praying our next child is closer to Faith's age for a change.  Faith is the 12 year old.  I finished my M.S., Psychology degree and am praying for God's direction for future steps. Meanwhile, we are in prayer for God's perfect timing to finish the basement.  For now, we are spending our time with the girls and saving up for a big two week trip to Yellowstone National Park this summer.  Until then, that is our focus. We continue to be so blessed by others supporting our ministry and the Lord honors our prayers and keeps moving in mighty ways.  It is very exciting to see the girl's grow, and how happy they are.  We just love our girls!!  Thank you everyone for your love and support!

Waterproofing the basment is finished!

B-dry finished waterproofing yesterday. We are so grateful that work is done. They had to cut the drywall on the bottom of the walls a few feet as part of their waterproofing so we have work on the walls that needs to be done to make the place habitable. The flooring cannot be installed until August as the cement has to have sufficient time to cure first but the walls can be worked on in the meantime. There is a lot of work that needs to be done to fix the walls and we are not drywall experts so we will need help with this big project. There are two groups of wonderful christian men we know with experience that we will call. Our prayer is the basement is finished by August so God can guide us how to best use the space. There are two ideas at present; teenager with a baby needing mentoring and help, and women with one or two children needing mentoring and help. We will keep praying about God's desire for that space and I will do some research in the meantime. I do not finish graduate school until September so I will be busy until then, and keep working on research regarding need in the meantime, and be in prayer for God's provision to finish the basement to make it habitable. Please join me in prayer!

Thank You Barnesville Baptist Church!

We are so very grateful for a substantial contribution from Barnesville Baptist Church to enable us to proceed with the waterproofing of the basement.  B-Dry is coming on May 14 to dig the trenches and install the drain to keep the water from the water table from ever flooding the basement again!  This means construction to finish the basement for the women's ministry can occur as early as June 2nd.  After the waterproofing is done we will need to fix drywall on the walls and some places in the ceiling and install new flooring and the basement will be habitable again.  We are very excited for God's plan for that space once it is ready for habitation.
